Why we do what we do

I had a firm message from a happy customer tonight. She saw my Mommy and me jewelry collection ads on Facebook. She said it grabbed her attention. It was a Momma bear and the cub necklace. She said it reminds her of her late mother. Last month she got it as a gift and she is taking her time to write me. I was touch by her story. I read it over and over.

This made me think of why I decide to do Mommy and me collection. I wanted to create something that meant to be meaningful and memorable jewelry and it does just that.

I'm honor and grateful to be part of this memorable moment. This is the exact reason we do what we do. I'm so proud of being a small handcrafted jeweler.

Hitting new milestone

I woke up like a champ today. Like many other Etsy sellers, first thing I do every morning is checking my stats. Starts with Today's stats then check how was yesterday stats end. This morning I saw a high volume traffic coming from stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com Ummm... what was that? Then I follow the link and I was in shock.

It was " Lauren Conrad Picks 8 Gifts for Your Mom, Because She's Cool Like That " column and she chose my Rose gold filled skinny bangle to be feature for her mother's day gift guide. This is amazing. The picture is included, my shop name is mentioned and a direct link to my item.

How to take product photography: jewelry and small items

If you're here, you've tried to take your beautiful creation picture and somehow it doesn't quite right. Yes, you and me! I was there and still are. As I am not profession photographer, I tend to learn as I go. Every mistake I make it paid off the next photo shoot. So, how do we go from blahhhh to ahhhhh



What do you need :

1)  Camera. Any camera would do with White balance and macro mode. Look up your camera and manual. Phone camera would work too. Smart phone takes amazing picture. For all my pictures, I took with Nikon D3100. It is my best business investment.

2) Lighting. : Spend sometime and do your own research and you will see. All roads lead to good lighting. Why? because when you have good lighting, it doesn't matter what background you use you will always has balance lighting pictures.

Many people will suggest to take picture under the natural sun light. Prime hours is between 10 am - 2 pm. Best location is next to the window with lot of light shining through. Just as shown in the picture below. You can follow the link to read this article at http://www.handmadeology.com

Unfortunate for me that my house is in the shade most of the day and being home with 2 small children. My working hour window is very slim. I chose to use light box.

A part of running small business is doing your own marketing and branding. I always improve my packaging and try to find the best way to presenting my products to the customer and spend less time on it. I used to use rubber stamp on card stock paper. It works in the past, but it's time consuming and inconsistency.
